Arakan Army (AA) Releases Over 500 Family Members of War Captives in Recent Days, According to Military Sources
It has been learned from some military sources that the Arakan Army (AA) has recently released more than 500 family members of war captives taken during clashes in Rakhine State.
On May 18, the AA freed 314 family members of detainees from Buthidaung Township, and on May 16, it released another 225 such individuals from Minbya Township.
Local media reported that yesterday’s release was carried out to mark the one-year anniversary of AA’s capture of Buthidaung Township.
These families were reportedly associated with Light Infantry Battalion 551 (LIB-551) and Operational Command Headquarters 15 (OCHQ-15).
According to reports, the AA has so far released a total of 1,023 detainees and their family members in 2025.
However, the Arakan Army has not yet issued any official statement regarding these releases.
